Update: Sale is delayed to 1:00 PM
The Opening Sale kicks off June 5th at 1:00 PM!
Thursday was the opening day of the 2020 BC Spot Prawn Fishery! We will have the freshest prawns for you straight off the boat at the Steveston Fisherman’s Wharf on Friday June 5th.
We were originally advertising our sale to start at 8:00 AM. However, due to a mechanical issue, our boat will not be at the dock until 1:00 PM.
Covid-19 safety measures are in place at the dock – because of this, we are expecting there to be a socially-distant line-up. Please plan ahead for possible delays.
Look for our Prawns on the Spot signs at the Steveston Fisherman’s Wharf sales dock. We can’t wait to see you!
Convenient Payment Methods
We are accepting cards this year! Our payment methods include:
Are your BC Spot Prawns live or frozen?
—Our prawns at the dock will be LIVE!
What is the price per pound?
—The price will vary daily depending on the market rate. It will start off around $17-$20 per pound.
What are your hours?
—Hours and days of the week will vary throughout the season. Follow us on social media for regular updates. We will aim for 8am-6pm daily but this will vary depending on prawn supply and weather.
How do I transport my prawns?
—We will be bagging your live prawns and we recommend bringing a waterproof container with you for transporting. Example: cooler, bucket or large bowl. Keep your prawns as cool as possible but DO NOT put them directly in water. Beware of melting ice! If your prawns are submerged in water before you’re ready to process them, the quality may be negatively impacted. We recommend de-heading them as soon as you’re able to. You can keep the tails in the fridge overnight if you’re eating them the next day.
Are the prawns sushi/sashimi grade?
—Yes, they are live prawns. Perfect for sashimi and sushi!
Do you have tailed prawns for sale (prawns without heads)?
—We will have frozen tails available later in the season. Please email your order inquiry to firstname.lastname@example.org. The price is higher for tails, typically $30-35 per pound (market price varies).
How do you prepare BC Spot Prawns?
—Our family favourite is sautéed garlic butter prawns. BC Spot Spot Prawns can be grilled, sautéed, barbecued – the possibilities are endless. However, they can be overcooked very easily. When sautéing, the prawns only need 1-2 minutes to cook per side. We find that when they lose their translucency and start to turn white, they are ready to eat.
Thanks for supporting your local fishing families!
